Frederica Golf Club is a private community amidst a maritime forest.

Saint Simons Island, Georgia: “It’s not surprising that a dozen PGA Tour players call Frederica home,” praised Tom Fazio. “As you pass the oak trees lining the nondescript entranceway, you become excited. Clearly you’ve crossed into a special place. The exclusive community epitomizes Lowcountry elegance with the beauty of its lakes and dense vegetation filtering through the property. I consider it the perfect balance of privacy and nature.”

In addition to a highly regarded Fazio design and caddie program, Frederica (only minutes away from the famed Sea Island Resort) offers homeowners a 35,000 square-foot clubhouse and pub, an Adirondack-style boathouse with access to stocked lakes, an equestrian center, and complete tennis and fitness center programs.

Back To The South

“Without goals in life, you tend to get lazy,” explained Greg Hauck, member at Frederica. “After a fortunate career in the pharmaceutical business, three of my ‘boxes to check’ in life were to make some great Sonoma County wine, become a scratch golfer, and live on an island. My wife Jennifer and I spent 14 years getting dirt under our fingernails crafting boutique wines in California’s wine country before moving to Frederica. Relocating to coastal Georgia produced a double bonus, allowing me to whittle my handicap and move to a barrier island!”

“There are surprisingly few private communities that provide excellent golf and equestrian facilities,” said Jennifer Hauck. “Usually clubs focus primarily on golf. Equestrian facilities are often more of an afterthought. Not so at Frederica.

“When I first toured the stables at Frederica, I was impressed not only by the beautiful barns and property, but also by the amenities offered,” said Jennifer. “There is a regulation dressage area with excellent footing and drainage, two jump arenas, an all-purpose arena, and a round pen. Plus there are grassy trails under the oaks that continue up to the lake and beyond, perfect for a post-ride cool down or a lazy Sunday ride.

“Once we moved to St. Simons Island, I bought a new horse and named him Zocho, which is a Japanese term for ‘defender and protector of the south.’ It seemed fitting,” said Jennifer. “Training on a beautiful day, surrounded by the century-old oak trees, is a feeling unlike any other.”

Inspiring Setting

Frederica’s practice facilities encompass 35 acres and include a double-sided driving range, a large short game area, two putting greens, and the Learning Center. Its world-class short game area offers a variety of approach angles.

“Watching Tour professionals train at Frederica stimulates me to practice harder,” said Greg. “They have an innate ability, but make no mistake, they’re constantly working on their game to get better. I’m jealous this is their ‘day job.’

“Surprisingly, for a club that has so many Tour players, competition isn’t a focus on the golf course,” continued Greg. “We have a nice mix of players of all abilities.”

 Gardens Of Frederica

“Last summer, we started a Wine and Weed get together at the community garden, Frederica Farms. Wait, that might be misinterpreted,” blushed Jennifer. “We supplied wine from our California vineyards and members met to pick weeds, clearing the way for the new garden. There are currently 15 member plots growing everything from melons to peppers. Greg has even earned the nickname ‘tomato whisperer.’”
