December 2020 Industry Report

I thought I would start my report off on a positive note. The Prime Minister of New Zealand reassured families that the Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny are considered “essential workers” during the pandemic – so no need for children to worry about losing out during any lock downs!

Rounds up, up, and away!

If traditional weather patterns hold for December, we are on track for approximately 50 million more rounds played over last year.

An interesting fact courtesy of the National Golf Foundation: Can you guess the last (and only) time the golf industry had an increase bigger than that? It was Tiger’s breakout year – 1997 – when the number of rounds jumped up 63 million over the year before.

Partnership Renewed

I am pleased to report we have renewed our partnerships with American and Delta Airlines. Our magazines will again be distributed in domestic Admirals Clubs and Sky Clubs next year.

Did you know? Charles Lindbergh flew the first American Airlines flight – carrying U.S. mail from St. Louis, Missouri, to Chicago, Illinois, in 1926. After 8 years of mail routes, the airline began to form into what it is today. Delta was founded in Macon, Georgia, in 1925 as a commercial agricultural flying company with crop-dusting operations from Florida to Arkansas.

Christmas Gift

We all have witnessed (much to our pleasant surprise) the incredible increase in rounds played during the pandemic.

There’s also evidence that holiday golf gifting outpaced historic levels. Online search interest for “golf gifts” reveals a 25-30% increase over last year.

Let’s hope the good news continues into 2021!
