BLUEJACK RANCH

Tradition Meets Innovation

OUTSIDE FORT WORTH, TEXAS: With golf’s renaissance in full swing, the vast majority of new private golf communities are in the works in just three states—Florida, South Carolina, and Texas. A star in the Lone Star State is Bluejack Ranch with a new Tiger Woods design, complementing his course at Bluejack National, located 220 miles to the Southeast, outside of Houston.

A trio of TCU (Texas Christian University) alumni is at the helm. “Pardon my reference to the hit movie The Sound of Music, but the ‘hills are alive with the sound of construction at Bluejack Ranch,’” reported J.J. Henry, founding partner. “After more than 600 PGA TOUR starts [and three wins], I know a good piece of land when I see it, and the land that will soon be Bluejack Ranch was screaming to be a golf course. It’s that good. As I transitioned from the PGA TOUR to the Champions Tour, developing this property became my blood, sweat, and tears for the past five years. I may still compete, but in many ways I’ve gone from tour player to tour guide, and I love it.”

J.J. decided to bring the band back together and reached out to fellow classmates Andy Mitchell (the money guy) and Josh Governale (the marketing guy) to turn a dream into reality. “If you know Texas golf, you are familiar with the success at Bluejack National. Now, with a footprint in Fort Worth, we are establishing a Bluejack brand with reciprocal privileges between the two properties. We felt it was important to have a connection between the two. Even though Bluejack Ranch is about a three-hour drive from Bluejack National, the concept of ‘one club two properties’ was a natural fit. It’s all about like-minded lifestyles, friendship, camaraderie, and options,” explained Henry.

Since Tiger Woods designed Bluejack National, it was natural to partner with him for Bluejack Ranch. “My relationship with Tiger runs deep,” said Henry. “Our kids went to the PGA TOUR day care together. He really is just one of the guys when he’s out of the limelight. As he has matured, Tiger has become somewhat of a big brother to younger players. However, his competitive nature is alive and well on the golf course. Since Tiger is now eligible to play on the Champions Tour, it will be interesting to see what happens. I must admit, I shed a tear when we announced the partnership with Tiger. I’m giddy and excited about what the future holds.”

Tiger’s course is scheduled to open in the fall. “Fort Worth is the 11th largest city in America, and there is nothing like Bluejack Ranch in ‘Cow Town.’ Our amenities are extensive, but we wanted to pay homage to our heritage by building a 20-acre working ranch for our members,” continued Henry. “Everyone loves the idea of enjoying a dude ranch, but few want to maintain one. So, we take all the stress away. Just think how cool it would be for your family to learn to rope a steer or go horseback riding on one of the club-owned horses on our miles of riding trails!”

The name Bluejack refers to a type of oak tree known for its resilience and iridescent blue/silvery grey foliage during dormancy. Bluejack National and Bluejack Ranch together represent a modern approach to luxury living.
