BOLTON, MASSACHUSETTS: The International (New England’s only 36-hole private golf club) originally opened in 1901 as a nine-hole public course called Runaway Brook Golf Club. At one point in time, the original layout of its Pines Course was considered the longest golf course in the world, with one hole, a par-6, measuring 715 yards from the tips.

Paul Celano, PGA Emeritus at The International, is regarded as a bedrock in the industry. He has given over 20,000 lessons/clinics, and 35 golf professionals who worked under his tutelage are now directors of golf at other prestigious golf clubs across the country.

The Difference in Their Difference is Spectacular
The Oaks Course runs around the perimeter of the property. Traversing rolling hills, you may feel you are playing in The Pines Course the “Old South.” Holes No. 3 and 16 offer long-range views of Mt. Monadnock—about 100 miles away in New Hampshire. “One of its special elements is that three of its par-3s have significant downhill elevation changes. It’s a solid design and pleasing to the eyes,” described Celano.

The Pines Course features fescue fairways that play firm and fast. “I’ve always considered course shapers on bulldozers to be artists,” continued Celano. “Their work shows masterfully on The Pines. It fits so naturally with the topography that it looks like it’s been here forever.”
