October 2024 Industry Report

Golf Communities Across America

Florida is far and away the leader when it comes to golf communities, with twice as many as the next closest state (California). According to the National Golf Foundation, The Sunshine State has more than 500 residential golf developments, more than half of which are private, and at least a dozen more are in the pipeline. California, Texas, Arizona, North Carolina, and South Carolina are the only other states with at least 100 residential golf developments.

Participation in Golf

Play in Florida was down by 6.5% in July, after its third-hottest July on record. Nationwide, rounds played declined a more moderate 1.4%.

Score versus Fun

77% of golfers keep score on a regular basis. The approximately 20 million golfers who do keep score tend to shoot in the mid-90s, with an average of 94. That hasn’t changed substantially in recent years.
