Public Golf In America

The state with the most public golf in the U.S. leads the category by a fairly substantial margin. According to the National Golf Foundation…It’s not Florida, which has the most golf courses overall…And it’s also not California, which has the most golfers in the nation. The U.S. leader in publicly accessible golf is Michigan, with 748 daily fee, municipal, and resort courses.

Growth of the Game

More than 48 million Americans hit golf balls with a golf club last year (at traditional green-grass facilities and off-course stores). There are more than 140 new courses in planning or under construction across the country – the majority of those tied to private destination clubs, high-end real estate communities, and resort properties – with 37% located in just three states (Florida, Texas, and South Carolina).

Oh, That View

Water views demand a premium…Water covers 71 percent of earth’s surface, but fresh water lakes account for only three percent of the total. An interesting fact: If spread evenly, the fresh water in North America’s Great Lakes  would submerge the contiguous United States under 9.5 feet of water!
